Job Title: Librarian
Department: Administration

JOB PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Digital Services Manager, support the overall mission of the library by effectively providing library services to customers and the community.

Essential Job Duties:
1. Deliver exceptional customer service.
2. Provide customer-focused reference and reader’s advisory services.
3. Develop, teach, and promote innovative technology and maker programs both in the library and in the     community through outreach activities.
4. Offer technical guidance on a variety of applications, software, and makerspace equipment.
5. Contribute to the selection of materials for the adult collection as assigned.
6. Prepare and maintain booklists, website information, and in-house book/media displays as appropriate.
7. Maintain expertise by reading professional literature, attending workshops and seminars, and researching     significant topics and trends in the field.
8. Ensure all policies and procedures of the Barrington Area Library are followed.
9. Serve on planning committees and attend library meetings as requested.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
• Knowledge of makerspace technology.
• Ability to work independently to learn emerging technology.
• High comfort level for assisting customers of all ages with a variety of technologies, such as office    productivity tools, the Internet, e-books, digital media production, and personal devices.
• Familiarity with current trends in content creation and media production.

Education and/or Other Requirements:

• Completion of an MLIS degree from an ALA accredited institution.
• Public library experience preferred.
• Direct experience working with makerspace technology.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud and iLife suite.
• Ability to travel locally as needed.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently required to see, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, talk and hear.
• Physical dexterity to reach shelves of various heights, push full carts, and occasionally lift heavy (up to 40    lbs.) items during a work shift.
• Physical dexterity to guide customers throughout the library as needed.
• Ability to read, write and communicate fluently in English.
• Dexterity to perform data entry on a computer, laptop, iPad or other electronic device.
• Visual acuity sufficient to read print in 8 point font.
