PFC John E. Hansen

1903 – 1960

Johannes Edvard Hansen was born October 17, 1903 at Grejs, Denmark, to Hans Peter and Maren Christensen Hansen.

He arrived in New York from Copenhagen aboard the Frederik VIII on May 24, 1921, following his brother Jorgen, who immigrated 5 years earlier. Hansen was naturalized in 1936.

Between August 1926 and August 1929, Hansen served in the Headquarters and Military Police, Hawaii Division at Schofield Barracks, Honolulu, Hawaii. He re-enlisted a month later and was assigned to Company E, 2nd Infantry where he served as a Private First Class for 19 months.

On February 11, 1931, Hansen married Katherine Petersen in Chicago; they raised four children. The family moved to Barrington in 1937.

Hansen worked for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad in maintenance.

Private First Class John Hansen died May 28, 1960 at his Barrington home. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery with his wife.
